Schedule

New Media Seminar No. 6
7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Special guest Jesse Lipscombe will discuss how he has used film, television, and social media to influence social change for the better. Jesse has used media as part of a career that includes sports, arts, and activism. He will explore the advantages and disadvantages of having yourself at the centre of social media messages. The #makeitawkward campaign, which he cofounded in Edmonton last year, has attracted attention across Canada.

Tennis Club Collective
6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Visit Artists-in-Residence in their clubhouse for a video screening of shorts with popcorn. In the past they have taught participants how to make piñatas, tie-dye pennants and greeting cards with potato stamps. Please join them in the garage workshop to see the artists at work.

McLuhan Literati
5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Join McLuhan House’s resident scholars Stuart MacKay and Marco Adria in a discussion of how the telegraph, also called the “Victorian Internet,” has changed how we see the world and whose effects are still felt today.
Stuart MacKay—librarian, genealogist, local historian, and Marshall’s cousin once removed—also shares his knowledge about the McLuhan Family’s Portrait Gallery, published works, ancestry, and personal legend.
This event will be recorded for archival purposes. We ask all participants to consent to photo and audio documentation. If you can’t attend in person, note that we will livestream on Periscope beginning at 7 p.m. MST, @madria40
