As part of our focus on achieving a long-term impact and creating a legacy of arts spaces in the Edmonton area when it comes to arts space, we look for constructive ways to be part of the decision-making process for arts space development in our city. Being a part of the core stakeholder group that worked with the Urban Planning Committee to build The City Plan, approved by City Council in December of 2020, was important to us.
The creation of The City Plan began with public engagement sessions, which individual members of Arts Habitat attended. Being invited to participate as a core stakeholder allowed us to sit at the table with local public institutions, civil society, and businesses to engage on topics specific to their areas of expertise. As the only voice for arts space in Edmonton, we encourage collaboration where we can build strong relationships, work with others, and share our knowledge and expertise. Being a part of the decision-making process, we were able to champion the importance of having appropriate and accessible space in which to create. We know that these spaces are essential for a thriving arts community.
