ArtsHub McLuhan House’s 2023- 2024 Garage Studio Program sponsored artist, Erika Germain, is hosting an Open Studio to conclude her residency at ArtsHub McLuhan House.
In October 2023, at the start of her McLuhan House residency, Erika Germain presented the project: Tell Me What You’re Searching For And I’ll Help You Look. Members of the public and surrounding communities were invited to write a note responding to the prompt: tell me what you’re searching for and I’ll help you look. In exchange for the handwritten notes, the artist gifted each participant a unique monoprint painting.
On June 15th, 2024, at the close of her residency, Erika invites these visitors and any other members of the public to return to her studio to see a body of work translated from the notes collected in October. The work presented will mark the completion of the year-long project, exploring themes of language, translation, ritual, and community. Alongside the presentation of this project will be an open studio, refreshments, and social gathering.
Erika’s time as the 2023-2024 Garage Studio Program Sponsored Artist will be cherished by Arts Habitat Edmonton and the Highlands community. Her project invited the community to pause, reflect, and connect and share. The Garage Studio Program continues to prove what sponsored space can do for artists and the residual value and connection it creates for our communities. Arts Habitat looks forward to Erika’s second Open Studio event and is excited for the community to come back to ArtsHub McLuhan House to experience part two of her year-long project.
