The Garage Studio Program is sponsored by Arts Habitat Edmonton and offers ArtsHub McLuhan House’s Garage Studio to an artist or artist group (selected by a panel) to use as a studio free of charge for one year. This year’s resident artist, Thomas Weir, moved into the ArtsHub McLuhan House Garage Studio on July 1, 2024.

Weir graduated from the Art and Design BFA program at the University of Alberta in 2020 and earned his MFA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph in 2023.

Weir’s art seeks to explore the world’s mysteries without relying on didactic explanations, allowing viewers to interpret freely. He blends timelines and visual references—from ancient rock art to modern films—using a non-linear, free-association process that defies rigid historical or logical connections.

Arts Habitat is thrilled to welcome Thomas Weir to ArtsHub McLuhan House and excited to see what he produces in the coming months.
