The Highlands Ukulele Gang Performed at the World Ukulele Day Celebration

On the afternoon of February 2nd, 2025, The Highlands Ukulele Gang (HUG) performed at the World Ukulele Day celebration held at Lynwood Hall in Edmonton.
HUG is run by instructor Monica Dear, and the gang meets regularly on the weekends at ArtsHub McLuhan House, utilizing the living space to gather for Ukulele lessons and group practice. They’ve called ArtsHub Mcluhan House home since the end of the pandemic in the Fall of 2022.
On World Ukulele Day, HUG featured two songs – Down by the Salley Gardens, and Down to the River to Pray by Alison Krauss. Monica shared that several other ukulele groups from around Edmonton were performing too, and that there are a lot of ukulele groups.
You’ll see HUG play next at Highlandia, the local Highlands community one-day music festival. Monica says it’s “Not to be missed!”
